I met Det Shoffler when i was 17 years old and a student at Woodrow Wilson High School. A drug addict Wilson student was arrested for some drug related charge.I had been a collector of antique fire arms that included a Winchester model 1895 lever action carbine caliber 30-40 given to me by a anthropology professor at Galudet College for the hearing impared he found it while visiting the site of the charge of San Won hill. I was able to rehabilitate it so that it would fire.It was Teddy Roosevelt’s favorite type of big game hunting rifle. I was worried that mine was going to blow up from age so took it to a gunsmith to be restored.On the way home showed it to a number of people at an after school hangout. The addict happened to be there that day. Soon after he was arrested by the drug squad that Shoffler was a member of and to get off he claimed that i was a supplier of automatic weapons to the Weathermen and other terror groups.So Carl and his unit decided to entrap me by an elaborate situation where eye witnesses told me that Carl went up to my parents house front door pulled a bag of whit powder out of his pants like he had obtained it from me and they left. Later I got a phone call accusing me of ripping someone off in a drug deal and they were coming over to do me bodily harm.When they came back I went out to meet Carl who smacked me around and said if i did not obtain some cocaine for him they would come back to cripple or kill me.He was convincing enough that though i had never done or sold anything but pot i went frantically to find and get some cocaine so “they” would not hurt me and leave me alone. Took me a week but got some to give him met him in Chevy Chase and gave it to them. Almost the minute i got home a childhood friend called me when he got out of jail and told me that he was there when Shoffler’s Drug Squad were hatching the plan that they knew was not legal but they thought it would lead them to the huge cash of firearms and full automatic weapons.During the next summer they kept calling me to do bigger drug deals and to buy guns. I went to the eastern shore every weekend because i was told if arrested on a friday you couldn’t get out till monday.Eventually they arrested me for the small amount of cocaine i gave them to not hurt.me. When Shoffler came to my family home and said take me to the machine guns. I started laughing took him where i kept the Winchester, my dad’s ww2 carbine not fired if ever since WW2 as my dad was an army dentist who never went overseas.and a 22 cal bolt action target rifle from camp and a replica of a cowboy single action colt 22 cal. When the dept found out that I was innocent of what i was suspected of they had the judge give what is called PPJ probation before judgement. Shoffler kept in touch with me cause I had a large number of people who gravitated to me due to flamboyant charismatic magnatism, had a photographic memory as a child actor. When i was about 21 he recruited me to work undercover for his new elete unit THE ORGANIZED CRIME INTELLIGENCE BUREAU which was a multi Jurisdiction squad that included a variety of agents from IRS/FBI/DEA that had been called FBNDD (federal bureau of narcotics and dangerous drugs) ATF, I functioned as a private investigator and fugative hunter.For the next almost 20 years I was well paid and was provided with “show money ” to throw around flamboyantly frequenting nightclubs ,disos, restaurants known to be fronts for Italian, irish,Jewish and greek and african american first and second generation gangsters,pimps and racketeers.I was instrumental in many high profile cases such as several murders, human sex trafficing, moneylaundering by the Mafia and Irish Republican Army , Terrorists.etc. Carl Shoffler after i met him and before he recruited me became famous as one of the 4 plainclothes that arrested the Watergate burglars. And his unit just happened to be the closest radio care when the security guard at the Watergate stumbled on the signs that a James Bondian group had picked locks and called the 911 and the dispatcher put out a any care near the Watergate to respond to a burglary in progress and Shoffler’s unit was nearby on a stakeout and took the call. Carl admitted that when he and his unit followed the trail of pro picked service doors he got so scared that he was the only one who pulled his gun during the arrest cause you don’t usually catch a group of burglars dressed in suits and ties lol. MacCord one of the guys arrested was the head of Security at Montgomery College where I was in school at the time before switching to American University, I do remember spotting Carl and other detectives i knew at various anti war protests in downtown DC where the undercover officers posing as demonstrators instigated rock throwing etc to try and give the offical police an excuse to arrest certain groups containing key protest organizers. That was ordered by the Nixon white House. I have documentation of what i am saying in this reply and will soon write a book about the most interesting cases i did with Carl Shofflers unit and federal agencies. When Carl dropped dead at 51 i was at his open casket wake and there were enlarged letters from at least 2 Presidents and even leaders of countries that he had pursued terrorists .He died of pancreatitis which is usually considered a drinking man’s cause of death but in the 20 years i worked with him never witnessed him even drink a beer.A great detective who became a DC cop to get out of Vietnam early. He was my guardian angel till the day he died. Great father and family man. On the was to his wake there were signs saying fairwell to him outside schools and churches in the Maryland suburb where he lived
